Why is this tutorial useful? Have you ever created something that, when you rotate it, is distorted because it had a gradient on it? You can make things that have been created using gradients, shadows, glows, etc be into a single layer with no effects so that you can distort, shear, rotate it, etc.

1. Start with something made with multiple layer effects (A). It even works to put multiple layers into a folder. The layer I'm using has a Drop Shadow and a Gradient Overlay (B). We want to get rid of these.

A

B

2. Now duplicate these layers to a New Document. Once there, make sure that the background of everything is transparent and then go to Layer > Merge Visible

3. Now you will have an un-effected layer that you can distort. You can duplicate this layer back to your original picture or keep messing with it.
